ZOO 366 2.0 Insect pest management

Course Aim/Intended Learning Outcomes:

This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the economically important insect orders, focusing on those affecting agricultural ecosystems and to introduce various principles and practices used in solving agricultural pest management problems.

Upon completion of the course students will be able to;
1. Describe major insect groups and the damages or losses they cause to crops
2. Evaluate the ecological and economic basis for the attainment of pest status
3. Determine when control measures are required based on the provided
information
4. Describe the tactics involved in modern insect management, including
advantages and limitations to specific methods
5. Comment on the basic concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in
agriculture
6. Formulate an integrated management approach to bring about the most
effective and least ecologically destructive pest control possible
